At Seggiano we undertake the sourcing, manufacture and distribution of all our products with the highest regard for human, animal and environmental welfare. We take our food quality very seriously, which means that we check on the origins and processing standards of all our product ingredients, in order to minimise the risk of GMO, or animal product contamination. Quality assurance is achieved through regular product and supplier audits. So we don’t just talk the talk, we are walking the walk.
real food from real people
We strive to bring you the very best in genuine artisan Mediterranean foods from Italy. The Seggiano range is sourced from the foothills of the Alps to the Calabrian coast and all that lies between. Whenever possible we use local cultivars and ingredients with provenance traceability for Seggiano products, which are made to order for us in small batches following authentic, traditional regional recipes and methods.
responsible & sustainable
In all areas of our business, every effort is made to limit the use of unnecessary packaging. We use FSC sustainable, unbleached, biodegradable and recyclable packaging wherever possible. Our online shop rejoices in re-cycling used cartons whenever possible in the packing of your purchases, whilst in the office we reuse the paper we print on and then recycle it.
accept no imitations
We source our products from like-minded, family-run independent food manufacturers, many of whom farm their own primary ingredients. Whilst respecting all health and safety norms, our mission is to maximise nutrition and flavour through careful choice of ingredients, to minimise heat processing and to veto industrial additives in favour of natural methods. Our producers are our long term partners, with whom we have evolved in our mutual quest to deliver the best natural Italian foods to humankind.
in seggiano we trust
We avoid certain ingredients, such as industrial preservatives and additives, which we suspect may have a negative effect on health. Our products have been free from bad fats forever, palm oil for years and we never did trust industrial emulsifiers. Instead, Seggiano is big on responsibility and transparency. We won't sell you foods with ingredients obtained through methods which we think are disrespectful to the wellbeing of humans, animals or their environment and we promise that the label will tell you exactly what is in the product.
the difference is in the detail
We focus on uncompromised quality of the food we sell. Many of our products are organically certified, or contain organically cultivated ingredients, while a significant amount are pesticide free and use natural fertilizers. Needless to say, our olive farm in Seggiano has organic certification and we follow the principles of permaculture, from the vegetable garden to the olive grove. That’s who we are.
Our gorgeous pesto and honeys are raw and we minimise heat processing wherever possible
Apart from our pecorino cheese, all Seggiano products are vegetarian and the majority of our products are dairy free.
When we say a product is vegan, it means that the producer applies a documented procedure and rules (no cheese sandwiches in pockets), to make sure that there can be no cross contamination with animal products.
This means that a certifying body checks and certifies that the production area is free from cross contamination with animal products.
If the ingredients are vegan but ….. the producer can’t guarantee that they will always be able to make a Seggiano product with a vegan sugar or vinegar, or if they don’t have a procedure in place to avoid cross contamination, we will only say that the recipe is vegan. You may also see a cross contamination warning for animal ingredients on the packaging.
preservatives & additives
The shelf life of many foods is lengthened by industrial means. Likewise flavour, texture and moisture content can be enhanced using additives and industrial emulsifiers, which also speed up productivity and reduce financial costs to the consumer. Seggiano likes to stay natural, true to the traditional roots of real food and to keep healthy.
Seggiano products are free from GM ingredients. We work with the US based, Non GMO Project on certification for all products sold in the USA. There are many avenues for potential GM cross contamination within ingredients and we are vigilant.
means that the producer applies a documented procedure to eliminate any potential cross contamination with gluten, verified by analyses which consistently demonstrate less than 20 ppm trace of gluten.
certified gluten free
This means that a certifying body checks and certifies that the production area is free from any gluten contamination.
wheat free recipe
Our wheat free recipes use nut flours in the place of wheat grains, but are made in production areas without provision or procedures to prevent gluten contamination.
Our alternative grain choice is a response to those who prefer to avoid modern wheat strains and features products made from ancient grains which also form part of the wheat family and contain gluten, but may be preferable or more digestible to some individuals.
